De ideale omstandigheden voor wijnbouw

Weingut Dürnberg ligt in het traditionele dorp Falkenstein, het historische hart van het Weinviertel. Sinds de twaalfde eeuw wordt hier wijn geproduceerd en tussen de 13e en 17e eeuw werden de wijnhandel tussen Wenen en Brno verzorgd door het "Falkenstein Mountain Court". Op deze hotspot waar oude en nieuwe wijncultuur elkaar ontmoeten, ontstaan wijnen met onmiskenbare aroma's en complexe kruiden. Het koele kenmerk van de wijn is het resultaat van een uitzonderlijk terroir. Op de kalkrijke bodems en dankzij een gunstig microklimaat bereiken de druiven een ideale rijpheid. De vallei is beschermd tegen de harde westenwinden en de goed geventileerde hoogte van de wijngaarden van Durnberg lijken gemaakt te zijn voor wijnbouw. Zelfs tijdens extreme hete zomerdagen koelt de temperatuur in de avond enorm af. Dat komt door de bijzonder hoge ligging, waardoor de verfrissende zuurgraad behouden blijft.

De wijnbereiding van Durnberg Zweigelt

De wijnstokken voor de Dürnberg Zweigelt Falkenstein groeien op een combinatie van verweerde kalksteen en klei. De grond is ook rijk aan humus, wat een goed waterreservoir is. De oogst van de volledig rijpe, gezonde druiven begint begin oktober. Na de oogst worden de gebroken druiven gedurende twee weken in vaten gefermenteerd. Vervolgens worden ze vijf tot acht maanden geperst en gerijpt, deels in eikenhouten vaten van 500 liter, deels in stalen tanks. Het resultaat is een complexe, elegante rode wijn met een koele mineraliteit. In de geur een zacht aroma van zwart fruit van braam en bes aangevuld met kruiden en vanille. De smaak zit vol elegantie en finesse, diepe smaken van Morello kersen, kruiden, toffee, tabak en pure chocolade. Echt een feest deze rode wijn van Durnberg, ook in de afdronk helemaal compleet vol en romig!

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

This book wasn't bad, but wasn't my cup of tea. It's highly disappointing because the storyline is so original. There is no real conflict or resolution, so the entire thing feels flat. As a lover of omegaverse books, I know there is a ton of variety out there, and ov is really up to the author. But this one is weird. Omegas have multiple scent glands all over their bodies and go into week long heats every month. Alphas have knots in the middle of their shaft instead of the base, and the knot doesn't always swell, no explanation of when or why. It doesn't engage at all when the mouth is in play. I also didn't enjoy the author's writing style. Each paragraph is only 1 or 2 sentences long, and the entire book reads very stacato. The conversations are stiff and unnatural feeling. Everything is very repetitive, both in word choice and in thought. The same thing is repeated 3 or 4 times over a single page, multiple times over. I ended up doing so much skimming. The first 50% of the book is all slow burn, and the last 50% is almost straight mediocre spice. This wouldn't have been all bad if the grammar and spelling errors didn't start at the exact same time. Tongue is repeatedly misspelled in the middle of the spice.
