STARRED REVIEW *“Masterfully combines text and folk-inspired art to add an important piece to the mosaic of U.S. civil rights history.” ―Kirkus Reviews

When her family moved to the town of Westminster, California, young Sylvia Mendez was excited about enrolling in her neighborhood school. But she and her brothers were turned away and told they had to attend the Mexican school instead. Sylvia could not understand why—she was an American citizen who spoke perfect English. Why were the children of Mexican families forced to attend a separate school?

Unable to get a satisfactory answer from the school board, the Mendez family decided to take matters into its own hands and organized a lawsuit. In the end, the Mendez family’s efforts helped bring an end to segregated schooling in California in 1947, seven years before the landmark Supreme Court ruling in
Brown v. Board of Education ended segregation in schools across America.

Author and illustrator Duncan Tonatiuh writes in his notes, “My hope is that this book will help children and young people learn about this important yet little known event in American history. I also hope that they will see themselves reflected in Sylvia’s story and realize that their voices are valuable.”

Using his signature illustration style and incorporating his interviews with Sylvia Mendez, as well as information from court files and news accounts, Tonatiuh tells the inspiring story of the Mendez family’s fight for justice and equality, a fight that is as relevant today as it was 75 years ago.

Great for a gaming laptop!
Color: Black, Size: 1.37" without hook
Great product is you want to mount any size laptop under your desk. I used it for my Alienware gaming laptop and it's fantastic! The three points of contact hold the laptop securely, while allowing maximum airflow for the fans. The three "clamps" are rock solid and will definitely outlive the laptop. The installation was simple and easy, just need a drill.

under desk laptop system
Color: Black, Size: 1.37" without hook
Reclaimed real desk space with this one. The mount holds the laptop securely underneath without any vibration or creaking and the installation required no drilling — clamped cleanly to the desk edge. The ventilation spacing is generous enough that thermals stay reasonable even under load. Works with a solid range of laptop sizes and the adjustment mechanism is easy to use. If your laptop spends most of its time docked this is the cleanest way to get it out of the way.

Works great, but pads are peeling.
Color: Black, Size: 1.37" without hook
Works for what I needed, which was to mount my work laptop to the side of my desk. However, the rubber pads started peeling the first day. I tried clamping them down overnight, but they still ended up peeling up. They haven't come off completely and are still working, though. I may have to glue them down.

Quality product.
Color: White, Size: 1.37" without hook
First of all it's made of metal so, I won't worry about accidentally breaking it and dropping my laptop. It came with adhesive rubber pads that fit inside the brackets, which is a nice touch for helping not to scratch up the laptop. It makes a huge difference to help declutter the desktop space.

Satisfied my need.
Color: Black, Size: 1.37" without hook
Easy to install and my laptop fits solidly. I have a work laptop, tower and my personal laptop. I hated how busy my home office desk looked. Moved my personal laptop underneath and made a big difference.
