DESCRIPTION

After the shocking, and for many, demoralizing result of the 2016 election, "I didn't buy the silver lining some were promoting that 'well, at least art and music will be great now!', " says Superchunk co-founder and frontman Mac McCaughan. "Obviously, any sane person would gladly trade four to eight years of terrible music for not having our country dismantled to satisfy the whims of a vengeful child and his enablers." That said, good music and art still have a lot to say, and the urgency of current events gave Mac, Laura, Jim, and Jon the momentum to make something new sooner than later. "It would be strange to be in a band, at least our band, and make a record that completely ignored the surrounding circumstances that we live in and that our kids are going to grow up in." Enter What a Time to Be Alive, Superchunk's first album in over four years, out February 16, 2018, on Merge Records. It's a record, says Mac, "about a pretty dire and depressing situation but hopefully not a record that is dire and depressing to listen to." Indeed, like so much of Superchunk's music in the band's nearly three decades together, the songs on What a Time to Be Alive meet rage and anxiety head-on with the catharsis and exhilaration of loud punk fire and vulnerable pop energy. Like 2013's I Hate Music, which focused on death, loss, and the role of music in an aging life, the new record brings spirit to the frontlines of pain-it's as defiant as it is despairing, as much a call to arms as a throwing up of hands. Written almost entirely between November 2016 and February 2017, What a Time to Be Alive was recorded and mixed by Beau Sorenson, who also worked on I Hate Music. "He's possibly the first engineer we've worked with that I had to ask to turn down the guitars, " says Mac. "Not too much, though." The record also features more guest backing vocalists than any previous Superchunk album, including Sabrina Ellis (A Giant Dog, Sweet Spirit), Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee), Stephin Merritt (The Magnetic Fields), Skylar Gudasz, and David Bazan. "Part of that was wanting a feeling of community, " says Mac. "I think that's important to not be completely bummed out about everything all the time." The title track charges in first and says it all. "Every dumb racist in America saw the election as a signal to come out of their holes, " says Mac (You brushed your teeth and found your calling / at the bottom of a swamp / There was no air but to be clear / darkness was all you wanted). "The country was built on white supremacy, and these people want to undo any incremental progress that has been made. It is frightening and enough to make you nuts." The record travels through the ensuing shock and chaos, from the pointed F*** Yous ("Bad Choices, " "Cloud of Hate, " "All for You") to the What Nows ("Lost My Brain, " "Break the Glass"). Merritt and Crutchfield join on "Erasure, " a resonant confrontation of the objective and consequences of fear and hatred wimp. "One goal of a bigot is to erase the history, experience, and existence of anyone they perceive to be 'other' than them, " says Mac. "It makes creating your own vision of reality so much easier..." Despite the album's driving force, it would be a mistake to call the album political, which suggests it has anything to do with parties, policy, or anything that can be broken down into a rational difference of opinion. "We're not trying to offer policy solutions in the confines of a three-minute song, " says Mac. "It's about 'how do you live / not go crazy' in the current climate when it seems like every day there's a new outrage being perpetrated."

Standard Comforter. Thin Scratchy Sheets
Color: Dark Green, Size: Queen
This is an ok set for the price. I’m mostly using the comforter for a guest room. It’s a light-medium thickness. The color and size are true to description. The sheets that come with the set are very thin and not as soft as the comforter.

Comforter is nice, sheets are alright. Color is true!
Color: Burnt Orange, Size: Queen
This is a decent comforter set. The actual comforter isn’t too heavy, and would be perfect spring through fall in the Midwest. It’s a true queen size fit and the burnt orange color looks as it does in the photos. I ordered these before it mentioned they’re polyester. They definitely don’t feel as breathable as cotton sheets but as far polyester goes, they feel soft. The sheets wrinkle easily but the comforter feels durable. If you’re looking for an affordable sheet set and you’re cool with polyester, this is a good option. Also of note is that 2 of the pillow cases have a little extra fabric on the outer rim to look more “decorative.”

Comfortable and Attractive Bedding Set That Offers Great Value
Color: Pink, Size: Queen
This queen bedding set is a nice combination of comfort and style. The pink color looks beautiful, and the textured comforter gives the bed a cozy, modern appearance. The sheets feel soft and comfortable, while the comforter is lightweight yet provides enough warmth for a restful night’s sleep. I appreciate that the set includes everything needed for a complete bedding setup, making it a convenient option. It’s also easy to care for and holds its appearance well after washing. While it may not have the feel of a premium luxury set, for the price it’s not bad at all and offers solid value. Overall, it’s a great choice for anyone looking for an affordable and attractive bedding set.

Lightweight, very smooth and comfortable comforter sheet set an a very attractive price
Color: Ivory, Size: Queen, Color: Ivory, Size: Queen
Such a well priced, attractive bed in a bag (comforter and sheet set) with the most lightweight comforter I have ever come across that is not a down comforter. This one is filled with 100% polyester with a 100% microfiber exterior. The sheets are called microfiber, which I am sometimes not a fan of as sometimes they feel too stretchy and hot. However, these feel good, and almost more like a smooth percale. It’s nice to the touch. Color is attractive in a clean ivory color. Going back to the comforter, I love the lightness of natural down, but somehow I have developed a sensitivity to the feathers which make me sneeze. This one can easily be thrown into the washer and dryer and feels equivalently light as my down comforters. It weighs in at slightly over a pound (though I could only carry it onto the scale) and I absolutely love the lightness of it. I did wash it in the washer and dried it in a dryer on normal heat. Came out with no wrinkles and very fluffy. Five stars!

Nice Comforter, Thin Sheets
Color: Blue, Size: Queen, Color: Blue, Size: Queen
I bought this comforter set for my guest bedroom, and the price was great. It’s really pretty and fits the bed perfectly. It includes a comforter, a sheet set with pillowcases, and two pillow shams. It arrived vacuum-sealed, when I opened it, I was impressed by how soft it felt—just right for a comforter. It seems like it will be warm yet cooling at the same time, and I love its thickness. The only downside was the sheet set. While the comforter is fluffy and cozy, the sheets felt cheap—very thin—and I prefer them thicker. They’re labeled 100% polyester but are just too thin for my taste. If you’re not picky about sheets, this set would be perfect. They are soft, just not thick enough. Overall, I really like the comforter, but I’ll use my own sheets because of the thinness of the included ones. I would have given it five, but the sheets bring it down to four.
